SDGs Report 2022-2023
33 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Solar Rooftop for Clean Energy Production Thaksin University has actively been advancing the implementation of a solar energy project, encompassing a total capacity of 1,973 kilowatts, which will span both its Phatthalung and Songkhla campuses. The primary objective of this initiative is to harness solar power as a means of generating clean electricity, thus establishing the university as an exemplar of environmental sustainability. By doing so, the project aims to align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), foster a model for neighboring communities, foster a conducive learning environment, and expand research efforts in the realm of clean energy. Furthermore, the project seeks to drive innovation and knowledge creation surrounding environmental issues, while simultaneously promoting the responsible use of clean energy sources and raising awareness about pressing global environmental challenges. Consequently, the university has instituted a comprehensive clean energy policy, with the belief that Thaksin University is suitably endowed with the necessary resources to facilitate SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND COMMUNITIES 11 the development of rooftop solar panels, a practice that is increasingly gaining popularity. Not only does this measure contribute to the reduction of energy consumption, but it also enables the generation of electricity for internal use within the university. The solar project’s significance is underscored by its potential to curtail carbon emissions, thereby mitigating the global issue of climate change. Thaksin University’s proactive engagement in renewable energy not only positions it as an exemplar but also serves as a commendable model for the neighboring community and other organizations seeking to transition to cleaner energy alternatives. Furthermore, the solar installation does not merely represent an energy production system but also serves as a valuable educational resource. It offers a fertile ground for research endeavors by university scholars, facilitating the development of knowledge and innovative solutions in the realm of environmental sustainability. This duality of function reinforces the university’s commitment to sustainable practices and knowledge dissemination in the field of clean energy.
